Rincón, Puerto Rico: Where to Stay, Eat and Fall in Love
By Harris
Surf in the morning, a cold drink in the afternoon and one of Puerto Rico's great sunsets at night.
Rincón is the town that makes people start looking at real-estate listings before the vacation is over. It is casual without trying too hard: surfers walking barefoot, little hotels tucked into hillsides, beach bars, tropical roads and a sunset that becomes the evening's main event.
If I were staying here, I would choose a room where I could see the ocean or walk to it. Spend the morning snorkeling or learning to surf. Have lunch somewhere casual. Take a nap. Then find a table facing west before sunset and order a cold Medalla or a rum cocktail. There is no reason to complicate this.
Rincón is also where Puerto Rico's Caribbean rhythm becomes especially obvious. Nobody seems desperate to get anywhere. After a few days, neither will you.
