After Antarctica: How to Spend Your Last Days in Ushuaia
By Vámonos Amigo Ushuaia Team
Most expedition ships return to Ushuaia early in the morning. You walk down the gangway with your bags, still a little wobbly from the Drake, and suddenly you're back on land with hours to fill. Many travelers rush straight to the airport. We always suggest staying one more night.
Rest first. After ten days or more at sea, a real bed that doesn't move feels like luxury. Book a hotel with a spa or a hot tub and let your body catch up. Ask about early check-in or luggage storage, since you'll arrive long before the usual check-in time.

Eat the king crab. Centolla, the southern king crab, is the meal everyone talks about. Order it simply, with butter or a light sauce, and a glass of Argentine white wine. After a week of ship food, it tastes even better.
See the land side of Tierra del Fuego. You've seen ice and ocean. Now see the forests and lakes. A full-day tour to Lago Escondido and Lago Fagnano drives you over the Garibaldi Pass, with some of the most beautiful views on the island. It's a relaxed day in a vehicle, perfect for sea-tired legs.

If you missed it before the cruise: Now is the time for the national park, the End of the World Train or the penguin colony on Isla Martillo. Many travelers save these for after the voyage, when there's no ship to catch.
