🇨🇱 Chile
From the driest desert on earth to the glaciers of Patagonia.
Chile is a ribbon of a country, about 2,700 miles long and rarely more than 110 miles wide, squeezed between the Andes and the Pacific. Most trips start in Santiago, a modern capital with the mountains on its doorstep and wine valleys an hour away, then add the colorful port of Valparaíso, the Atacama Desert in the north or Patagonia and Torres del Paine in the far south.
Distances are long, so fly between regions. Chileans speak fast, with plenty of local slang, and dinner runs late. Bring layers: the weather changes dramatically from north to south, and even in a single day in the desert or Patagonia.
